Slate’s Gray $25,000 Truck Just Got a Crayola Makeover

Wired · 1 month ago

Slate Auto, the Bezos-backed manufacturer behind America's cheapest new electric truck, has launched its first branded partnership with Crayola to offer coloured vehicle wraps in five colours from the crayon company's existing lineup. The collaboration extends Slate's original design strategy of using paint-free composite wraps to reduce costs, with starter packs bundled with branded accessories and available through the company's online marketplace.

Whilst the base Slate truck begins at $24,950 with minimal features and a 205-mile range, the Crayola wrap packages carry a steep premium of $1,550—triple the cost of standard wrap kits—which sits awkwardly against the brand's affordability messaging. Deliveries are expected to begin in late 2026, with the vehicle's 65-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack and 120 kW DC charging capability enabling a 20-to-80 percent charge in thirty minutes.

  • Slate Auto, a Bezos-backed EV startup known for its $25,000 truck, has partnered with Crayola to offer custom vehicle wraps in five classic crayon colours.
  • Premium Crayola wrap kits cost $1,550—three times the standard wrap price—marking a departure from Slate's low-cost positioning despite the colourful marketing appeal.
  • The bare-bones electric truck remains America's most affordable new pickup, shipping Q4 2026 with 205-mile range and LFP battery technology enabling rapid charging.
