Snap chief executive Evan Spiegel told the BBC that Snapchat would be willing to introduce daily time limits for teenage users, describing such a move as potentially beneficial for the social media industry. His comments follow Meta’s agreement with US states to introduce a default two-hour daily limit and other protections after allegations that its platforms were designed to be addictive to young people.

Spiegel did not give a timetable, but said Snap was considering the proposal and already offered parental controls through its Family Center. Meta has offered to pay an additional $5.3bn if YouTube and TikTok adopt similar measures, while all four companies face lawsuits linked to alleged harm to young people’s mental health. The comments came as Snap announced AI-powered Specs glasses, costing £1,995 in the UK, with features including live translation in 60 languages.
