Algee Smith has been cast as rapper Warren G in Universal Pictures’ forthcoming Snoop Dogg biopic, Snoop. The role highlights Warren G’s importance in Snoop Dogg’s early career, as he introduced him to Dr. Dre and helped establish the network behind his rise in West Coast hip-hop.

Jonathan Daviss will play Snoop Dogg, while Myles Bullock, Camron Jones and Lauren London have been cast as Dr. Dre, Tupac Shakur and Snoop’s mother respectively. Craig Brewer will direct and has written the latest script draft; filming is scheduled to begin around Los Angeles in mid-September, incorporating music from Snoop Dogg’s catalogue.
