Australia captain Maty Ryan has been left out of Tony Popovic’s 26-man squad for September friendlies against Brazil, despite beginning the La Liga season strongly. Popovic said the 34-year-old goalkeeper remains available and that the omission was intended to give another keeper an opportunity, rather than signalling the end of Ryan’s international career.

Seven uncapped players have been selected, including goalkeeper Jacob Chapman, defenders Kasey Bos and Dylan Leonard, and overseas-based attackers Eli Adams, Yaya Dukuly and Marcus Younis. Sixteen players from Australia’s World Cup squad return, while injuries rule out Jordan Bos, Cam Burgess and Cristian Volpato; Riley McGree, Patrick Yazbek and Alex Robertson are recalled, and several established players are omitted.
