The 16th Bogotá Audiovisual Market (BAM), running from 6 to 10 July 2026, has showcased a project line-up that positions Colombia as a rising force in Latin American production and animation. Reported by Variety, the event highlights a growing embrace of genre cinema — from horror and gore to detective procedurals — alongside socially conscious storytelling, while Brazilian talent increasingly lends international weight to regional titles. The market offers a snapshot of Colombia's evolving industry, which is no longer defined by isolated auteurs but by a broadening film and television ecosystem.
Standout titles include the class-war thriller "The Eastman" from Mauricio Leiva-Cock, the Latino procedural "Rookies" (featuring "Narcos" star Damián Alcázar), the queer drama "Mesopotamia" and the 2D animated parable "The March of the Sunflowers". Of the 10 fiction film projects at BAM, eight are first features, and 75% of the 16 production companies surveyed by Variety launched within the past decade. The market also reflects Colombia's animation momentum, coming just 10 days after France's Annecy Festival named the country its 2027 Country of Honour, with many projects blending genre tropes with urgent social themes such as displacement, memory and Afro-descendant experience.
- Bogotu00e1 Audiovisual Market 2026 spotlights genre films and social storytelling.
- Colombia is emerging as a Latin American animation and production power.
- Eight of BAM's 10 fiction film projects are debut features.
