Wisconsin state representative Francesca Hong, a frontrunner in the state's Democratic gubernatorial primary and a dues-paying member of the Democratic Socialists of America, is facing criticism after old social media posts resurfaced showing her disparaging popular American holidays. The posts have become a flashpoint in her campaign, drawing attacks from conservative commentators and highlighting the tension between her socialist politics and mainstream cultural traditions.

Among the resurfaced posts is one from November 2020 in which Hong called for the country to "cancel Thanksgiving", arguing it would help "stop cel[ebrating]" what she characterised as problematic aspects of the holiday's history. Fox News coverage, including commentary from host Will Cain, also noted posts expressing dislike for Halloween. Critics have seized on the remarks as evidence of hostility to American traditions, framing them as a liability as she seeks statewide office.
