## Key points

- Sonic appears in the second trailer for *The Angry Birds Movie 3*.
- The crossover follows Sega’s $775 million purchase of Rovio.
- The film reaches cinemas on 23 December.

## Summary

Sonic the Hedgehog will appear in *The Angry Birds Movie 3*, giving the character a cinema outing before the fourth Sonic film arrives in 2027. The cameo was revealed in the film’s second trailer, where Sonic races Chuck, the bird voiced by Josh Gad; the crossover reflects the shared ownership of the game franchises.

Sega bought Rovio, the Finnish company behind Angry Birds, for $775 million in 2023, and the characters have since crossed over in several games. *The Angry Birds Movie 3* is due in cinemas on 23 December, with a story about Red balancing fatherhood and a new threat from the pigs. *Sonic the Hedgehog 4* is scheduled for 19 March 2027, followed by a still-mysterious Sonic spin-off planned for December 2028.
