'Sons of Anarchy' creator Kurt Sutter has publicly endorsed a new spinoff series despite having no creative involvement in it. FX has ordered "Legends," a limited series reuniting the core cast of the biker drama in a "meta thriller" premise, developed by star Charlie Hunnam alongside Jonathan Groff. Sutter's response, posted via Instagram, matters because it addresses fan speculation about his role and signals continuity between the original show's legacy and this new project.

In the series, cast members attend a fan convention and become caught up in a dangerous, life-imitating-art scenario, a concept drawing comparisons to the film "Galaxy Quest." Sutter said Hunnam sought his blessing before pitching the project to FX, and that he has since read the script and given it his full support, noting his wife and co-star Katey Sagal is also part of the cast. Co-star Kim Coates likewise released a statement praising Hunnam's approach, saying the project takes a fresh direction rather than simply recreating the original series.
