Sony in talks to land Battlefield movie from Christopher McQuarrie and Michael B. Jordan

Eurogamer ·

Sony is reportedly negotiating to acquire a film adaptation of Electronic Arts’ Battlefield, with Christopher McQuarrie set to write, direct and produce. Michael B. Jordan is also attached as a producer and may star, though that possibility depends on several factors.

The reported talks followed a bidding contest among studios, and Sony declined to comment. Battlefield began in 2002; its 18th main instalment, Battlefield 6, was released last year and reportedly became both the year’s best-selling first-person shooter and the franchise’s best-selling game. Other named producers include representatives from EA, Emerald Neon, Vertigo and Outlier Society.

Battlefield is a series of military action video games made by Electronic Arts, usually centred on large battles between opposing forces. It began in 2002 and has had many instalments, with players taking part in combat on foot and in vehicles.

Electronic Arts owns the series, while Sony is a film and television studio. Christopher McQuarrie is a filmmaker known for writing and directing action films, and Michael B. Jordan is an actor and producer; both are linked to the proposed adaptation. The game series’ commercial success helps explain why studios may be interested in bringing it to a wider audience.
