Sony Pictures has secured film rights to John August's graphic novel "Wolf's Belly," a reimagining of Little Red Riding Hood, beating out several other studios including Amazon. August will write the screenplay himself, while four-time Oscar winner Alfonso Cuarón comes on board as producer, marking a notable literary-to-screen adaptation backed by significant creative pedigree.

The story follows Little Red Riding Hood and her Grandmother as they find themselves trapped in a magical void inside the wolf alongside other devoured fairytale characters, including the Boy Who Cried Wolf and a fourth Little Pig, as they attempt to escape together. August and Cuarón have opted for a live-action approach over animation. Gabriela Rodriguez is also producing, with Richard Schwartz executive producing via Esperanto Filmoj, which had an existing relationship with August. The graphic novel, illustrated by Simón Estrada and published in 2026 by Macmillan's Roaring Brook Press, received starred reviews from Kirkus and School Library Journal; August previously wrote Big Fish, Charlie's Angels and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for Sony.
