Sony's new Spider-Man film, Brand New Day, is on course to challenge Avengers: Endgame's all-time domestic box office opening record this weekend, as it comfortably surpasses Sony's own previous best. The film's strong performance follows a period of good financial results for Sony and marks a significant win for the studio, whose Spider-Man franchise has consistently been one of its most valuable assets.

Brand New Day reportedly took $168 million domestically on its opening Friday, with Sony projecting a $325 million weekend total, though some analysts believe it could go even higher. That would put it close to Endgame's domestic opening record of $357 million, and would easily beat No Way Home's $260 million, which had been Sony's previous best opening. No Way Home went on to gross almost $2 billion worldwide, suggesting strong prospects for Brand New Day, which stars Tom Holland alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink and Mark Ruffalo.
