## Summary

A group backed by George Soros and his son Alex supported a record 19 Democratic doctors and scientists who won seats in Congress this week. The article argues that several of the incoming lawmakers have brought issues such as gun policy, vaccines, gender-affirming care, race and climate change into their medical or scientific work, making their influence on health policy a point of debate.

It highlights paediatrician Annie Andrews, who won a South Carolina Senate seat, and Richard Pan, who helped lead California’s campaign to end personal-belief exemptions from school vaccine rules. It also discusses Jamie Ager’s environmental studies degree, allegations concerning Adam Hamawy’s past associations and Abdul El-Sayed’s medical training and research. Some claims in the article are attributed to critics or previous reporting; the supplied text ends before the account of El-Sayed is complete.
