## Key points

- Spain pledged €437 million in military aid to Ukraine.
- The package is intended to bolster Ukrainian air defences.
- Ukraine says it needs about 300 Patriot missiles for winter.

## Summary

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has agreed to provide Ukraine with €437 million (about $490 million) in military aid, President Volodymyr Zelensky said after meeting him on 5 November. The package is intended to strengthen air defences as Russian attacks continue to damage transport and energy infrastructure.

Zelensky said Ukraine faces shortages of air defence systems and delays in Patriot missile supplies, contributing to power and water shortages, particularly in Kyiv. Spain had earlier pledged five Patriot PAC-2 missiles; Ukraine says it needs about 300 Patriot missiles for expected Russian ballistic missile attacks over winter. Russian strikes have also damaged or destroyed more than 500 Ukrainian locomotives during the full-scale war, according to Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
