## Key points

- Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel died after an on-field collision.
- Police are investigating, though prosecution is considered unlikely.
- The club has requested a match postponement and plans a tribute.

## Summary

Spanish police have opened an investigation into possible involuntary manslaughter after Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel died following a collision during a second-division match. The chief prosecutor said criminal proceedings were unlikely because the incident happened during play.

De Miguel, 30, suffered cardiac arrest after colliding with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono as both challenged for a long ball in added time on Monday. Owono was sent off, and the 2-2 match was abandoned; the precise medical cause of death has not been disclosed. Tenerife has asked to postpone its Saturday match and plans a stadium tribute, while its president says players and their families may need professional support.
