Speed-dating, sharks & Hunted – unique pre-season tales from WSL 2

BBC Sport · 3 hours ago

Clubs in the Women's Super League 2 have been embracing unconventional team-bonding activities during pre-season as they prepare for the campaign kicking off on 4 September. With several sides travelling abroad or taking trips within the UK, managers and players have used the downtime to help new signings settle in and strengthen squad relationships ahead of the season.

Nottingham Forest, on a pre-season camp in Canada, visited a wildlife centre and took part in a speed-dating exercise organised by manager Tom Mallinson, in which paired players discussed each other's strengths, which captain Georgia Brougham said helped a Swedish new signing feel at home. Sheffield United played a real-life version of Channel 4's "Hunted" in the Peak District, while Sunderland goalkeeper Fran Stenson, newly arrived from Southampton, mistook a pod of dolphins for a shark during a coastal outing. Wolves headed to the Lake District for abseiling, fitness work and campfires, with players joking about their manager's RAF background and worrying more about their skincare routines than any "military" ordeal.
