## Key points

- "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" hits $1.67bn worldwide in just 12 days
- Second-fastest film to $1bn overseas, behind "Avengers: Endgame"
- Now tracking towards the rare $2bn milestone

## Summary

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" has climbed to $1.67 billion worldwide after just 12 days in cinemas, making it the second-fastest film ever to cross $1 billion overseas, behind only 2019's "Avengers: Endgame". The Sony release, Tom Holland's fourth solo outing as the web-slinger, is now the biggest film of the year and the 12th-highest-grossing release of all time, reflecting strong pent-up demand for the character following a five-year absence from cinema screens since "No Way Home".

Its total comprises $1.01 billion internationally and $655 million domestically, with a second weekend alone contributing $381 million globally ($236 million overseas, $145 million domestically) — the third-biggest second weekend on record. China leads international markets with $186.7 million to date, ahead of the UK ($87.4 million) and Mexico ($65.8 million), and with little competition and heavy repeat viewing the film is now on course to reach $2 billion, a mark only seven films in history have achieved. Separately, Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" passed $1.1 billion to become his highest-grossing film ever, while Paramount's "PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie" opened to $23 million overseas.
