## Key points

- Spider-Man: Brand New Day had cinema's second-biggest global opening weekend
- It rivalled or beat Avengers: Endgame's US opening record
- Result marks a major box-office win for Marvel and Spider-Man

## Summary

Spider-Man: Brand New Day has recorded the second-biggest global opening weekend in cinema history, trailing only one previous release, in a result that underlines exceptionally strong audience demand for the character and gives Marvel a significant lift after a mixed run of box-office performances. The film's box-office is being compared directly with some of the biggest openings ever achieved by the Marvel and Avengers franchises, cementing its place among the highest-grossing launches on record.

Domestically, the film's opening weekend takings put it in contention with, and by some accounts ahead of, Avengers: Endgame's long-standing North American opening record, one of the most closely watched benchmarks in modern box-office history. Its combined worldwide and US performance confirms the film as one of the standout theatrical releases of the year, reinforcing Spider-Man's status as one of the most commercially reliable properties in the superhero genre.
