- Highlights continued strength of the Spider-Man and Marvel box office draw.

## Summary

Sony's Spider-Man: Brand New Day has become the highest-grossing film released so far this year at the US box office, according to GamesRadar+, with industry observers now suggesting it could go on to challenge Star Wars: The Force Awakens' long-standing domestic box office record. The milestone underlines the continued box office strength of the Spider-Man franchise and Marvel-related releases more broadly, at a time when the wider cinema industry has been looking to major blockbusters to sustain post-pandemic audience numbers.

The report frames the film's early takings as part of a strong run that has outpaced other 2026 releases, positioning it as the year's box office leader to date. Comparisons to The Force Awakens, which set a benchmark for US domestic earnings after its 2015 release, reflect the scale of Brand New Day's commercial performance, though the article notes this record remains a stretch goal rather than a confirmed outcome.
