## Key points

- "Brand New Day" leads box office for sixth straight weekend, nearing $900m milestone.
- Film could soon break "The Force Awakens'" all-time domestic record.
- New releases "By Any Means" and "Onslaught" open modestly this weekend.

## Summary

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" is set to top the North American box office for a sixth consecutive weekend, earning around $22 million over the four-day Labor Day frame. The Marvel and Sony film, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, has crossed $900 million domestically, making it only the second film ever to do so after "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," and is expected to soon overtake that film's all-time domestic record. It also matters as a rare box-office bright spot in an otherwise quiet post-summer weekend, with new releases performing modestly by comparison.

Globally, "Brand New Day" has now taken more than $2.33 billion, ranking third of all time behind "Avatar" and "Avengers: Endgame". Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey," also starring Tom Holland, is expected to place second with roughly $16.4 million, bringing its domestic total to about $588.1 million. Among newcomers, Paramount's crime drama "By Any Means," starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Mark Wahlberg, is projected to earn around $7 million, while A24's "Onslaught," starring Adria Arjona, is expected to bring in about $2 million, a marked drop from last year's Labor Day leader, "Weapons," which took $48.7 million.
