Spider-Man fans hail Brand New Day as Holland’s best yet

BBC Entertainment · 2 hours ago

Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Tom Holland's fourth standalone outing as Peter Parker, has opened to enthusiastic queues and largely positive reviews, with several critics and fans calling it the best of his run in the role. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, the film moves away from the multiverse-heavy plot of Spider-Man: No Way Home towards a more personal, character-driven story, following Parker as he protects New York while coping with everyone, including his closest friends, having forgotten who he is.

Critics such as The Telegraph's Robbie Collin and The Wrap's William Bibbiani praised the film's emotional depth and the chemistry between Holland and real-life wife Zendaya, who returns as MJ, with Empire and The Standard also giving strongly favourable reviews. Others, including The Guardian and the Financial Times, were more mixed, crediting Zendaya with elevating a script they felt leaned too heavily on familiar plotting and CGI action. The film also features Jon Bernthal's Punisher in his first MCU feature appearance and introduces Sadie Sink in an undisclosed role, while fans queuing for screenings described Holland's performance as his most mature yet.
