Spotify has launched an AI-powered Running Mode for Premium subscribers, designed to create running playlists around a user’s preferred tempo, music tastes and workout goals. The feature matters because it aims to reduce the effort of selecting suitable music for a run, while adding optional spoken coaching prompts.

Running Mode offers 25 preset playlists that users can tailor by genre, duration, beats per minute and training style, including interval, steady and pyramid sessions. It is available from today on Spotify’s iOS app in the US, UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and Sweden; unlike Spotify’s discontinued 2015 running feature, it does not automatically detect and adapt to a runner’s pace.
