Spurs omit Richarlison from Premier League squad

BBC Sport · 2 hours ago

Tottenham Hotspur have left Richarlison out of their Premier League squad for the first half of the season, with the Brazil forward expected to leave the club in the coming days. Manager Roberto de Zerbi had said the 29-year-old asked to leave, and a move to former club Everton looked close before Tuesday's transfer deadline, though it ultimately fell through; with the Premier League window now shut, he could still join a club in Turkey or Saudi Arabia, where transfer windows remain open.

Richarlison joined Spurs from Everton in 2022 after previously moving from Watford to Everton in 2018, and he is now in the final year of his contract. He started Tottenham's opening-day defeat by Brentford but was omitted from the squad for Saturday's 2-0 home loss to Newcastle, with new loan signing Omar Marmoush taking his place. Despite being Tottenham's top league scorer last season with 11 goals and four assists in 32 appearances, De Zerbi said after the Newcastle game that Richarlison "said too many times he wants to leave."
