Three women who own a cottage near Balmoral Beach in Mosman have applied to acquire a separate, long-forgotten strip of land behind their property through a possessory-title claim, commonly described as squatter’s rights. The Registrar-General is expected to approve the claim in early August unless someone with a competing interest objects, making the case significant because it could transfer valuable Sydney land whose registered owner has not changed for generations.

The claim concerns about 165 square metres behind 225 Raglan Street and was lodged under Part 6A of the NSW Real Property Act. The land remains registered to Walter William Wallace Walker, while the applicants say they have openly held it for at least 12 years; a public notice was published on 2 July, starting a one-month objection period. A local agent suggested the parcel could be worth more than $650,000, based on a recent nearby sale.
