A new Star Wars comic has brought back Greef Karga, the character played by Carl Weathers, two years after the actor’s death. The appearance is notable because Lucasfilm has not recast the part or digitally recreated Weathers, instead placing Karga in a story set before the forthcoming film The Mandalorian & Grogu.

The comic, The Mandalorian & Grogu – Danger in the Dark, is published by Mad Cave, Papercutz and Disney and acts as a prequel to the film. It depicts Karga as Nevarro’s High Magistrate, still allied with Din Djarin and Grogu, and assigning them a mission involving a potentially dangerous problem beneath the planet; Weathers died aged 76 in February 2024.
