## Key points

- Jonathan Freeman’s Texas drawl shapes his version of Hawks.
- Players can customise Hawks’ appearance and species.
- Erica Luttrell gives the character a contrasting performance.

## Summary

Actor Jonathan Freeman says his Texas upbringing influenced the voice he gave Hawks, the customisable lead character in the strategy game Star Wars Zero Company. The drawl makes Hawks distinctive across the different species players can choose, and Freeman says he connected with the character’s empathy and determination to help others.

Hawks is a former Republic captain who forms a mercenary group after being blamed for a lost battle. Freeman suggested adding Star Wars versions of Texan sayings to the script; the resulting line includes a comparison to “the inside of a mynock’s suckhole”. Erica Luttrell’s version of Hawks has a different performance and no Texas accent, giving players two distinct takes on the protagonist.
