## Key points

- Johnny Smith wakes from a six-year coma with stronger psychic abilities.
- He uses visions of the future to help his community.
- The six-season series remains an overlooked Stephen King adaptation.

## Summary

After waking from a six-year coma, small-town teacher Johnny Smith finds that his psychic visions have grown into vivid glimpses of the past and future. The 2002 series *The Dead Zone*, based on Stephen King’s novel, follows him as he uses those abilities to help people and prevent harm, while wrestling with a life that moved on without him.

The article describes the show as a science-fiction thriller whose doctors explain Johnny’s powers through activity in a previously unused “dead zone” of his brain. Touching someone triggers a vision in which he can alter his perception of time, and he uses this insight in cases ranging from identifying a murderer to warning a student about a heart condition. The series ran for six seasons and is presented as an overlooked King adaptation, often overshadowed by the 1983 film.
