Steve Guttenberg, Christie Brinkley’s Family Comedy ‘American Summer’ Lands Release (Exclusive)

The Hollywood Reporter · 2 hours ago

Blue Harbor Entertainment has acquired US distribution rights to "American Summer," a family comedy starring Steve Guttenberg and Christie Brinkley, and will release it in cinemas on 4 September. The Hollywood Reporter learned exclusively of the deal for the coming-of-age indie film, written and directed by Michael W. Gray, which the studio is positioning as a nostalgic, family-friendly throwback amid a run of similar releases.

The film follows Mikey (played by Guttenberg) as he looks back on a pivotal childhood summer marked by first love, making a travel baseball team, and the anxiety of his father going missing overseas while serving in the US Army. The cast also includes Dan Lauria, Logan Gray, Mia Talerico, Cullen Moss, Erinn Ruth, Maximus Virgili, and baseball figures Lee Mazzilli and Luis Sojo, with Gray writing alongside Jennifer B. White and Marc Prey, and producing with Michael Cuomo and Ann M. Gray.
