Bindi Irwin has paid tribute to her father, wildlife conservationist Steve Irwin, on the 20th anniversary of his death. The "Crocodile Hunter" died on 4 September 2006 aged 44, after a stingray fatally pierced his chest while he was filming underwater at the Great Barrier Reef, and his family has continued to run Australia Zoo in Queensland ever since.

In an Instagram post, Bindi, now 28, called her father a "superhero" and said his true legacy was "love", describing how her mother Terri lost "the love of her life" and she and her brother Robert, 22, lost "the greatest dad". She also revealed her five-year-old daughter watches Steve's documentaries every morning, feeling loved by her "grandpa crocodile" despite never meeting him. Terri Irwin shared an old interview of Steve recalling Bindi's birth and the origin of her name, while Robert posted his own tribute captioned "Your legacy is forever"; Robert won Dancing with the Stars last November, a decade after Bindi won the same show.
