## Key points

- Nicks wrote “Landslide” while deciding whether to stay with Buckingham.
- The song began in Aspen after their 1973 album struggled.
- Buckingham says the pair have since repaired their relationship.

## Summary

Stevie Nicks says she wrote “Landslide” in Aspen while uncertain whether to continue her relationship with Lindsey Buckingham, after their 1973 album failed to succeed. Her account offers personal context for one of her best-known songs and links its creation to a difficult period before the pair joined Fleetwood Mac.

Nicks recalled looking out at snow-covered hills and writing the song with a Goya guitar she said she could hardly play. She and Buckingham later joined Fleetwood Mac, which released “Landslide”; the two eventually ended their relationship and were estranged for years. Buckingham says they are now in regular contact, with work on an unreleased Fleetwood Mac documentary helping them heal past tensions.
