Store clerk foiled ex-Navy SEAL’s explosives plot targeting police at No Kings protest, feds say
A former Navy SEAL has been convicted in connection with a foiled plot to deploy explosives against law enforcement officers at a No Kings protest event in California. Gregory Vandenberg, 49, faced charges of transporting explosives with the intention to harm or kill and attempting to bring prohibited fireworks across state lines. The discovery of his plan came after a retail worker reported suspicious behaviour to federal investigators.
A jury at a federal trial in New Mexico convicted Vandenberg following five days of proceedings and roughly three hours of deliberation. The conviction concluded the investigation into what authorities determined was a serious threat targeting police officers at the protest gathering.
