Lance Stroll suffered a rear-suspension failure during first practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix, interrupting Aston Martin’s first major upgrade of the season. The team has introduced an extensively revised car after falling towards the back of the field, so the incident is an early setback, although Fernando Alonso’s subsequent running offered some encouragement.

Charles Leclerc topped the session for Ferrari, 0.484 seconds ahead of Red Bull’s Max Verstappen, with Lewis Hamilton third and Isack Hadjar fourth. Alonso was 13th, 2.475 seconds behind Leclerc but closer to the leaders than Aston Martin has been recently; Leclerc’s own session ended early after a separate car failure in the pit lane.
