Student, 19, died underneath waterfall after hiking to beauty spot with friends and being pulled under by current, inquest hears
A 19-year-old student, Sean Kanyoza, drowned while visiting the Ystradfellte waterfalls in the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales during a hiking trip with friends on 27 June, an inquest heard on Thursday. He was pulled underwater by a "harsh" current and failed to resurface, and despite the efforts of emergency responders he was pronounced dead at the scene. His death highlights the dangers posed by strong currents at popular natural beauty spots.
Emergency services were called to the site, known as Waterfall Country, at around 2.15pm. Friends paid tribute to Mr Kanyoza, with Jamie Ward describing him as a "beloved friend" and "a true free spirit with a heart of gold" who left a lasting impression on everyone he met. A GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up to help his family cover funeral costs.
