‘Summer House Canada’ Set As NBCUniversal Streamer Hayu’s Second Original Reality Series
NBCUniversal's reality-focused streaming service Hayu has commissioned Summer House Canada, its second original series, adapting the Bravo franchise for a Canadian setting. The order follows Hayu's first original commission, The Real Housewives of London, and lands a day after Bravo's original Summer House secured its first Emmy nomination, signalling the streamer's push to expand its slate of exclusive reality content for subscribers in Canada and worldwide.
Production is already under way in Muskoka, Ontario, in partnership with Lark Productions, with the series set to premiere on Hayu in 2027. The Summer House format follows a group of friends who share a house on summer weekends to escape city life, and the Canadian version will use Muskoka's waterfront cottages as its backdrop for clashing relationships, careers and personal lives. Executives Hendrik McDermott of NBCUniversal and Erin Haskett of Lark Productions praised the format's momentum and "authentic friendships," while the franchise continues to be distributed internationally by NBCUniversal Formats.
