## Key points

- An orangutan spun repeatedly around a bar at a Chinese wildlife park.
- It switched between holding on with its hands and feet.
- After the display, it returned to lounging in its enclosure.

## Summary

An orangutan at Xixiakou Shendiaoshan Wildlife Park in Weihai, eastern China, entertained visitors by repeatedly rotating around a horizontal bar. Its energetic display drew comparisons with Olympic gymnasts and offered an unusual glimpse of the animal’s agility.

The orangutan switched between gripping the bar with its hands and feet before stopping and returning to lounge inside its enclosure. The article contrasts this brief burst of activity with orangutans’ generally slower-moving habits in rainforest habitats such as Borneo.
