The London revival of Stephen Sondheim's "Sunday in the Park With George" has been cancelled after both of its star performers, Ariana Grande and Jonathan Bailey, withdrew from the production. Producers Empire Street Productions confirmed the 2027 staging at the Barbican Centre will no longer go ahead as planned, though they intend to retain the rights and revisit the production in 2028. The cancellation is a significant blow for fans hoping to see the two "Wicked" film co-stars perform together on stage.

Grande, who was due to play Dot and Marie, and Bailey, cast as George Seurat, had drawn huge anticipation since the revival was announced in January, with ticket sales pushed back to September to align with the end of Grande's "Eternal Sunshine" tour. Grande withdrew last month, citing a step back from public visibility amid scrutiny over her health, and Bailey followed with his own exit earlier this month. Despite auditions having taken place over the summer and hopes that replacement performers might be found, producers have opted to shelve the show entirely rather than recast, meaning London audiences will now have to wait until at least 2028 to see the Sondheim classic.
