Sony and Marvel Studios' "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" is on track for one of the biggest cinema opening weekends ever, with early estimates putting its North American debut between $260 million and $280 million across 4,300 theatres. This would place the film among an elite handful to cross $200 million domestically in a single weekend, suggesting that so-called superhero fatigue has not dented appetite for Tom Holland's web-slinger, even as other comic-book franchises have struggled.

Sony itself has offered a more cautious forecast of around $190 million to $195 million, but most box office analysts expect at least $250 million, with some predicting over $300 million. Only "Avengers: Endgame" has ever opened above that mark, with $357 million domestically and $1.2 billion globally in 2019. "Brand New Day" follows 2021's "No Way Home" ($260 million domestic opening, $1.9 billion worldwide) and, unlike its predecessor, will launch day-and-date in China, a market that could significantly boost its projected $275-300 million international opening. The film cost $225 million to produce and continues the story after Peter Parker's identity-erasing sacrifice at the end of "No Way Home".

  • "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" may open to $260-280 million in North America
  • Could rank among the biggest opening weekends in box office history
  • Benefits from a China release and huge fan anticipation after "No Way Home"
