Superman Spinoff Comedy The People v. Gorilla Grodd Greenlit at HBO Max

Consequence · 3 hours ago

HBO Max has ordered The People v. Gorilla Grodd to series, a half-hour comedy spinoff of last year's Superman film that spoofs true-crime documentaries. The show is the latest addition to DC Studios' expanding television slate, following the recent debut of the more serious Lanterns series, and underlines the studio's willingness to explore varied tones across its screen output beyond traditional superhero fare.

The eight-part series follows Daily Planet reporter Jimmy Olsen, played by Skyler Gisondo reprising his Superman role, as he investigates whether the super-intelligent ape Gorilla Grodd, played by Jimmy Tatro, was wrongly convicted of murdering his father, the King of Gorilla City. Tatro previously starred in a similar mock true-crime format in Netflix's American Vandal. Also returning from Superman are Beck Bennett, Mikaela Hoover and Wendell Pierce, joined by newcomers including Mary Holland, Eduardo Franco, Arian Moayed, Dan Perrault, Andrew Leeds and Tim Baltz. No release date has yet been announced.
