Surveillance footage has emerged showing ICE officers chasing a Venezuelan migrant in Austin shortly before he was shot by an immigration officer. Wilber Rafael Garces Perez, aged 28, was pursued by unmarked federal vehicles with sirens activated, shot, arrested and detained. The incident has sparked significant controversy over policing tactics and migrant treatment.

Perez's attorney claims he was run off the road whilst working as a DoorDash driver, shot in the back of the neck and forcibly removed from his vehicle. However, surveillance footage reveals no vehicle damage, and bodycam footage from responding Austin police shows officers assisting rather than pulling him from the car. Perez remains in ICE detention with the bullet still lodged in his body, prompting criticism from Democratic lawmakers including U.S. Representative Greg Casar, who has accused ICE of withholding evidence.
