Two suspected human smugglers were arrested after a high-speed pursuit in Fabens, Texas, on Thursday, according to authorities. The chase reportedly reached more than 100 mph before the vehicle was disabled, after which both occupants fled; one was caught quickly and the other allegedly carried out an armed carjacking before being detained.

The incident unfolded on Interstate 10 near a Speedway petrol station at about 9:16am, with Border Patrol, Customs and Border Protection air crews, Homeland Security Investigations and Texas Department of Public Safety involved. Radio traffic suggested a spike strip may have damaged a front tyre; authorities have not said how many people were allegedly being smuggled or their nationalities. The suspects are expected to face allegations including human smuggling and evading arrest or detention.
