Swansea midfielder Franco facing lengthy spell out
Swansea City midfielder Goncalo Franco is facing 10 to 12 weeks out with an ankle ligament injury, a significant setback for the Welsh club just a month before the new Championship season begins. The 25-year-old was injured in an accidental collision during a behind-closed-doors friendly against Exeter City at Swansea's Fairwood training ground last Saturday.
Franco has been a key player since joining from Moreirense in summer 2024, scoring six goals in 91 appearances and being named Swansea's player of the year in 2024-25. His injury comes shortly after Ethan Galbraith's departure to Stoke City, leaving head coach Vitor Matos short of central midfield options alongside Marko Stamenic, Jay Fulton, Melker Widell and Leo Walta, with Swansea starting their campaign against Birmingham City in the Carabao Cup on 8 August before facing Stoke in the league.
- Franco out 10-12 weeks with ankle ligament injury before new season
