Swansea City head coach Vitor Matos says his side are rediscovering the possession-based playing style that defined the club's most successful era, as they sit top of the early Championship table. The Swans, unbeaten in 11 of their last league games bar one defeat, have taken 10 points from their opening four fixtures and impressed with a strong midweek win over Watford ahead of Saturday's derby against Wrexham.

Matos, who took charge in November 2025, said he wants to restore the "DNA" associated with Swansea under previous managers such as Roberto Martinez, Brendan Rodgers and Michael Laudrup, an approach that helped the club reach the Premier League in 2011 and win the League Cup in 2013 before relegation in 2018 amid a shift away from that style. While cautious about reading too much into the early table position, Matos said the team have "something special growing" and must stay focused on understanding their performances rather than just enjoying the results.
