## Key points

- Bird strike delayed Wednesday’s return from Vienna.
- The airport wait lasted about six and a half hours.
- The trip ended after a chairman-hosted karaoke evening.

## Summary

Sheffield Wednesday’s European pre-season trip ended with a lengthy delay at Vienna airport after their Ryanair aircraft suffered a bird strike. The disruption followed a team-bonding evening and brought an otherwise positive training camp to an unusual close, as the club prepares for the new season.

Players, staff, journalists and Stoke City were delayed by around six and a half hours. The group had attended a dinner, drinks and karaoke event hosted by chairman David Storch, who reiterated his commitment to providing a strong environment for the squad.
