The Swiss Football Association (SFV) has withdrawn its support for Gianni Infantino’s bid for another term as Fifa president, reversing an endorsement it made in June. It says recent events have raised fundamental concerns about leadership, governance, transparency and decision-making at Fifa, and that the move reflects questions which remain unanswered.

Infantino, who has led Fifa since 2016, is seeking re-election in March. Opposition has grown since plans to sell a stake in Fifa tournaments, including the World Cup, were revealed in July and then abandoned after an outcry; football associations in England, Wales, France, Serbia and elsewhere have also withdrawn support. Uefa has said it will present a rival candidate before the November deadline, while Infantino has said he is open to talks about reform.
