Swiss-Korean director Hae-Sup Sin has been named the recipient of the Allwyn Residency Fellowship at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival, a prize awarded through Future Frames, a programme supporting young European filmmakers. The fellowship gives one participant a tailor-made professional programme in Los Angeles designed to advance the next stage of their career, marking a notable step for an emerging director working in cross-cultural, diasporic storytelling.

Sin won over the jury with his short film "Ban Dal" ("Half-moon"), about a Swiss adoptive mother and her son who travel to South Korea to meet his biological mother. The one-month Los Angeles residency, now in its fourth year and run by Allwyn, European Film Promotion and Karlovy Vary in collaboration with United Talent Agency and Range Media Partners, includes mentoring, job shadowing, specialised training and meetings with US industry figures. Sin studied at the Zurich University of the Arts, earning a bachelor's degree in 2019 and a master's in feature film directing in 2025, and is developing his first feature, "Some Korean Summer." Previous winners since 2023 include Denmark's Amalie Maria Nielsen and William Sehested Høeg, and Germany's Simon Schneckenburger.
