A 22-year-old woman was shot dead and five other people were wounded when gunfire broke out at a techno rave in Aarau, northern Switzerland, in the early hours of the morning. Swiss police launched a large-scale manhunt for the unidentified attacker or attackers, deploying armed officers, an army helicopter and roadblocks in the surrounding area, as authorities said the motive and exact circumstances remained unclear.

The shooting occurred around 2.30am local time at the Pferderennbahn Schachen Aarau horse racing track, where roughly 3,500 people had gathered for the annual event. Police said several shots were fired into the crowd, injuring four men and one woman aged between 24 and 27, with injuries ranging from minor to serious; witnesses initially mistook the gunfire for fireworks before fleeing to a nearby gymnasium. DJs who performed at the event, including Tekibo and Sam Madi, said they were unharmed but described the incident as devastating, with Tekibo saying he had lost a close friend.
