SXSW True Crime Doc ‘I Got Bombed At Harvey’s’ Scores North American Deal
Jolt.film has acquired all North American rights to "I Got Bombed at Harvey's," a true-crime documentary about the 1980 bombing of Harvey's Resort Hotel in Lake Tahoe, which sparked a $3 million extortion plot and a major FBI manhunt. The deal, revealed exclusively by Deadline, secures the film a theatrical and digital release and comes as the true story approaches its 46th anniversary, underlining continued industry appetite for well-crafted true-crime storytelling.
Directed by Amy Bandlien Storkel and Bryan Storkel and produced by Propagate Content, the film recounts how an elaborately booby-trapped device containing more than 1,000 pounds of dynamite was wheeled into the casino alongside a ransom demand, triggering a frantic race by bomb technicians and the FBI. A special anniversary screening is set for 26 August at Tahoe Art Haus & Cinema, followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers, timed to the standoff's original dates of 26–27 August 1980. Executives from Jolt.film and Propagate praised the documentary for blending suspense with an unexpectedly personal, human story.
