Flight QF122 departed on time at 3.25pm and was airborne for just over an hour before landing safely in Christchurch, according to FlightAware data. Footage broadcast by 1News showed flames emerging from an engine on the aircraft's left wing as it climbed after leaving Queenstown. A Qantas spokesperson confirmed the diversion to 1News, adding that Queenstown Airport remained operational, while the airline had not yet responded to a request for comment.
