The BBC has revealed a first look at "Tall Tales and Murder", a six-part dark comedic crime drama created by "Love/Hate" writer Stuart Carolan alongside "Veep" director Chris Addison. Shot in Ireland, the series is a co-commission between BBC Northern Ireland and RTÉ, and is notable for pairing its modern-day gangster storyline with an unusual parallel narrative set in the 8th century, blending crime comedy with historical adventure ahead of its broadcast on BBC One and BBC One Northern Ireland later this year.

The story follows nurse Bridget (Ella-Lily Hyland), car thief Paul (Casey Walsh) and detective Bunny Ryan (Brian Doherty), who become entangled with a comatose patient revealed to be gangster Grinner McNair (Aidan Gillen), sitting on a hoard of buried Celtic gold, while rival crime boss Wesley Swanson (Packy Lee) also pursues the treasure. Based on Caimh McDonnell's nine-book "Dublin Trilogy" and produced by Avalon with Metropolitan Pictures, the series is directed by Addison and Neasa Hardiman, with commissioning credits shared between RTÉ and BBC Northern Ireland executives.
