Disney’s Tangled is a 2010 animated musical based loosely on the Rapunzel fairy tale. It follows a young woman with very long, magical hair who has been kept in a tower by Mother Gothel, and who leaves with the thief Flynn Rider to see the outside world.

Disney has spent recent years remaking some of its animated films with live-action performers, including versions of The Lion King, Aladdin and The Little Mermaid. These projects use familiar stories and songs but may alter characters, settings or plot details for a new audience.

The new film is being directed by Michael Gracey, whose previous work includes The Greatest Showman. Teagan Croft, Milo Manheim and Kathryn Hahn are taking the main roles previously voiced by Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi and Donna Murphy; the original film was a major commercial success and later led to further screen stories.
