Tania Head became one of the most infamous fraudsters to emerge from the aftermath of 9/11, having fabricated an elaborate story of surviving the World Trade Center's south tower and losing her fiancé in the north tower. She rose to prominence as a volunteer tour guide at Ground Zero and president of the WTC Survivors' Network, with her supposedly harrowing account of escape and loss becoming one of the most widely repeated survivor testimonies of the attacks, until investigators exposed it as entirely invented years later.

Head, a Spanish woman whose real name was Alicia Esteve Head, claimed she had been a 26-year-old Merrill Lynch manager chairing a meeting on the WTC south tower's 96th floor when the attacks began, and described in vivid detail her escape alongside a fictional fiancé, "Big Dave", a Deloitte consultant she said died in the north tower. In reality, she was almost 4,000 miles away in Spain that day and had no connection to Merrill Lynch, the towers or the events she described so convincingly to journalists, survivors' groups and Ground Zero visitors.
